Sophia
Longing for Sophia
by Matthew Holtmeier
I’d like to say I understand.
I’d like to say that I know it’s for the best.
But I don’t feel that way,
And I wonder how you can.
It’d like to lash out and complain
But my heart isn’t really into it.
It’s more of a sore spot now,
Simply leaving me hollow.
Perhaps there is some greater purpose,
Some room for growth.
But I don’t feel that way,
And I wonder how you can.
When we first crossed paths,
It was a time of rapid change.
Now the movement is stagnant,
And I find myself treading alone.
The world moves about me,
And I feel stuck and sliding.
I’d like to say I understand.
Perhaps there is a greater purpose…
